THE
SHOP DOCTOR CAME TO DERBYSHIRE
In January 2009, Derbyshire County Council, under the Market Towns Initiative, commissioned Diane Jackson from Main Marketing & PR to deliver a Retailer Training package to support retailers through the economic downturn.
The programme
consisted of four themed workshops: Marketing, Customer Service, Advertising & Promotions, and Visual Merchandising (Retail Survival Course). 7 sets of workshops were delivered from April – November 2009 to the DDEP sub-region and a further three sets of workshops to be delivered February – April 2010 to north east
Derbyshire.
This was all part of the Derbyshire Market Towns Initiative was initially funded by the Derby and Derbyshire Economic Partnership and delivered by Derbyshire County Council. The project has run since March
2007. The purpose of the project is to assist the co-ordination and development of strategic projects in the Market Towns located within the DDEP
Sub-Region.
Diane Jackson (alias the Shop Doctor) visited 28 Market Towns in Derbyshire and N E Derbyshire and worked with a total of 178
businesses. An independent evaluation commissioned by Derbyshire County Council stated
that: Overall the feedback from delegates was very positive, and there are numerous comments from individual delegates that indicate that they had found the training useful. Many reported that they had put new ideas into practice as a result of the training and that these had been
successful.
Interest in the training programme was strong and the programme has exceeded the output targets. The training provider, Main Marketing, is to be congratulated on their professional approach to the delivery of the workshops, particularly for their efforts to recruit attendees.
